SEMA 2012: TJ Lavin’s 1951 Ford Shoebox Debuts in Kicker Booth

Walking the SEMA Show is sometimes daunting, but stumbling across cool lead sleds and customs sure makes it all worth it! We came across this killer 1951 Ford built by Divine 1 Customs for T.J. Lavin. Debuting at the SEMA show in the Kicker booth is no easy feat, but the crew pulled it off quite nicely.

To start things off, Misha Munoz from Divine 1 Customs began the design process by brainstorming with T.J. Lavin to tackle the look he was after while still adding in some personal touches and custom detail throughout. Lavin knew he wanted an old military theme on a custom look, but left the critical details and decisions up to the capable hands of the Divine 1 crew.

The stance and custom body work were first on the agenda, so Divine 1 installed a custom air suspension system to get her a bit closer to mother earth, while a “haircut” treatment via a healthy chop top also lowered the overall height. The air ride compressors and air valves are hidden in old “ammo boxes” while missile style toggle switches activate all four corners. Shaving the body of most factory annoyances left a nice clean canvas for the matte Olive drab green and the rest of the details were airbrushed to bring this Ford back into the 50s.

It's all in the details, with painstaking attention to detail, each and every piece is incorporated into the theme.

The number 76 represents the year Lavin was born, while the bombs symbolize his daughter’s birthdate, and to finish it off, the lovely pinup pays tribute to Lavin’s wife. Inside aluminum door panels with rivets match the bomber seats, and an old army surplus tent was used as the cushion covers and rear deck material. The subtle military details throughout really bring back memories and add a touch of class and mechanical stature to this custom creation. Even the gauges and dash panel have been given a look that resembles an early p57 cockpit.

Aluminum door panels with brass rivets and custom bomber style seats carry the military theme throughout.

When it came time for the tunes, they turned to the “Livin’ Loud” experts over at Kicker. Outfitted with Kicker’s latest gear, Munoz and crew built custom “bomb” subwoofer enclosures housing the four 10-inch woofers behind the custom aluminum bomber style seats. Also carrying the military theme throughout, the rear deck speakers were all drilled with custom rivets to match.

Kicker Gear Installed:

  • (4) COMP VX2-ohm 10-inch DVC
  • (2) 1×1000.1 Amps
  • (1) Kq5 Processor
  • (3) QS60.2
After all was said and done, the Divine 1 crew was pleased to unveil T.J. Lavin’s ’51 and Lavin was overwhelmed. “It came out exactly as I envisioned, maybe even better…” said Lavin when we caught up with him in the Kicker booth. Make sure to check out the Kicker Facebookpage for more.
