Space-Age Performance Disc Rotors from DBA USA

Disc Brakes Australia (DBA) is an Australian-owned manufacturer of high-performance disc rotors, and is internationally renowned for their innovations and expertise in the automotive brake industry.

At the SEMA Show this year, we had the opportunity to meet with Yoni Kellman, national sales and marketing manager for DBA USA. Kellman brought us up to speed on DBA’s space-age technology for performance disc rotors.

Screen Shot 2015-11-12 at 3.19.05 PMDBA’s wide range of performance disc rotors feature the patented Kangaroo Paw ventilation design, which is a major breakthrough in brake rotor technology. It helps increase disc rotor efficiency by up to 20 percent, compared to conventional disc rotor designs. Individually spaced between the rotor faces are 144 diamond and teardrop shaped pillars that provide greater strength and surface area to increase heat dissipation.

DBA’s unique technology of Thermal Stability Profiling (TSP), has proven to improve rotor and pad life, enhances the microstructure of the rotor, allows it to take more heat, and maintains stability under demanding braking conditions.

Screen Shot 2015-11-13 at 11.08.18 AMDBA’s disc rotors also incorporate Thermo-Graphic Temperature Monitoring (TGHP). What this means, Kellman stated, “Is that there are special paint markings that change color at specific temperature thresholds. This way the driver can easily monitor their braking performance by looking at the markings.”

Also on display was DBA’s well-known T2 and T3 Universal Slot Pattern designs. The increased number of exit points these designs offer allow quicker release of brake pad friction gases, providing more consistent and efficient braking.

The T2 by-symmetrical curved slots dampen vibrations and noise while providing a smoother and more responsive pedal feel.

The T3 tri-symmetrical curved slots also dampen vibrations and noise for a smoother and more responsive pedal feel. The increased number of slots offer additional out-gasing points, thus increasing the effectiveness of every stop. The T2 and T3 Universal Slot Pattern designs clear heat and debris from the rotor face and eliminate the need for left and right discs.

The benefits of the Kangaroo Paw, T2, and T3 designs are reduced wheel bearing fatigue, reduced rotor warpage and runout, and increased pad life. All DBA disc rotors are a direct replacement and do not require any additional hardware. Each disc is painted with a high-temperature enamel to prevent corrosion.
