Video: Meet Hot Rod Pinup Model Ruby Rae

Bettie Page and Marilyn Monroe seem to have influenced a lot of car chicks, no? That put-together 1950s style with a healthy dose of repression and imagination is popular with the hot rod set.

So who is my current fifties flavor? Introducing Ruby Rae, born and raised in the Golden State (where else?) who’s been modeling for only two years. Check out the video excerpt from Hot Rod Pin-Ups [1] and see how handy she is around the garage. I certainly don’t think I can get anything done while she’s getting things done – could you?

Describe your own style in one sentence.
Casual and not so casual – it really depends on how I feel and what I’m doing.

What got you interested in modeling?
I was born and raised in Orange County, CA. I’m 28, a mother of two awesome kiddos, and a full time student. I’m definitely a ham when I’m around a camera or not and a big dork. I like to have fun wherever I am, whatever the situation. I love vintage shopping…a little too much. I’ve always been into pin ups, but I love being a pin up even more!

Share something interesting about you that no one would ever guess!
I have my kiddos’ names on my back.

This video is an excerpt from Hot Rod Pin-Ups [4], a DVD directed by Grammy-nominated photographer David Perry. David teamed up with Gearhead Records [4] to create an audiovisual companion to his book Hot Rod Pin-Ups. You can find Ruby Rae and other hot numbers hangin’ out at the drag strip, cruising country roads and, of course, working in the garage. I can’t say I know any of the “Punk ‘n Roll” bands on the soundtrack, but Sweden’s own Hellacopters and The Hives are on the label and their energy can’t be denied.
