Snow and ice are normally deterrents for hot rods, and almost always forbidden in racing, but in Sweden (or at least what Google Translate tells me is Sweden) it has little impact on either. We would love for Santa to drop off some snow tires in the northern US, then sit back and watch the chaos that would likely ensue.
We’ve seen our share of ice drag videos, but the “Alvin on Ice” participants are pretty hardcore. Minus 22 degrees is something that we Californians simply cannot begin to fathom, but the spirit of these hot rodders is is undeniable.
These guy and gals are slightly crazy, or really accustomed to cruising through snow covered landscape in classic roadsters. Racing on ice and snow covered roads, or lack thereof, makes for some beautiful images.
Just imagine what our friends in the great northern United States might come up with if they were treated to a brand new set of studded tires and visit by the Polar Vortex at the same time. If we took a cure from our friends in Sweden, races and car meets would not have to fall prey to whims of mother nature.
Although the temperatures might be slightly more moderate than northern Europe, we have coffee and a passion for hot rods. Perhaps Santa might feel like participating in the race and with the help of his elf powered pit crew he might even stand a chance. If all else fails, just enjoy the video of some crazy rodders living the kustom kulture lifestyle in the middle of winter.
