Goodguys Rod and Custom Association presents us with the 20th Summer Get-Together in Pleasanton, CA, running June 1-2. It is this fantastic event where American cars of all varieties come to get showcased, sold or raced; and this time, Goodguys has made a goal of placing more emphasis on youngsters and getting them involved in the festivities.
Live bands will perform on the 1st, courtesy of Diablo Valley College’s “Rhythm, Rock, and Blues Revue.” From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., over two dozen bands will perform, all of whom are music students of DVC. The musical repertoire sounds downright awesome, from rock to Motown to country western, and much more.
Part and parcel of this will be the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow “Engine Challenge,” wherein two six-man, high school teams will race against the clock and each other to disassemble and rebuild a Chevy V-8 engine with only hand tools. Seven teams, ranging from California to Georgia, will compete to determine the fastest rebuild team of the land!
Racers needn’t worry! Your desires will be met with the rapid and thrilling Goodguys Autocross competition. You can expect to see a lot of drivers out in force, looking to prove themselves on the asphalt. Timed course, five different divisions, tons of cars; need I say more?
And let’s not forget the usual, but never ordinary, swap meet. It shall resume as it has in the past, as will the cars-for-sale corral and manufacturer’s exhibits. With all of this going on in just two days, you can bet this fiesta will likely attract a lot of people; in fact, it’s expected to exceed 2,500 cars and surpass 50,000 guests!
Goodguys president Marc Meadors is “excited to offer these new event activities for younger car enthusiasts at the Summer Get-Together.” He went on to say, “I think you’ll see new energy and new enthusiasts both participating in the event as well as just hanging out and having fun. Goodguys has always been about having fun with cars.”
