Ever been to Oz? The people are rugged like Texans yet they have a Limey accent. They eat Vegemite instead of peanut butter, and their country features two animals that can’t walk backwards. Are they upside-down or what? But ya gotta hand it to Aussies when it comes to cars. They like V-8s and, if the “Born in the USA” show is any indication, they like American cars too.
Docklands, in the city of Melbourne in the state of Victoria in the country of Australia (whew!), is host to perhaps the premiere event for American cars. A two-day event, it hosts hot rods and customs on Saturday and general American classics on Sunday. Imagine a car show on the Baltimore Harbor in summertime and you’ll get an idea how nice it can be.
Caprice Photography Automotive Art was there both days to bring you coverage on how they roll in Oz. When it comes to American cars, few countries outside North America rival the enthusiasm Australia has.
Why is this? I can only guess that its own auto industry has had its own versions of American cars, such as the Ford Falcon and Chrysler Valiant. Of course, in more recent years, Australians have reversed their role as Americans got to experience their Holden Monaro as the Pontiac GTO and, soon, a Chevrolet Caprice for the men in blue.
Additionally, a show based out of Sydney (that’s in New South Wales for the geography-ignorant) filmed the event, so check out the Classic Restos site for more footage.
