Spotted on Barn Finds, we came across a neglected classic that we couldn’t simply pass by. Behold, a 1971 Dodge Challenger, which is sitting outside and is currently only a rolling body.
With no engine or tranny, this Challenger has a lot going for it in that it has its original VIN number as well as the fender data plate. The owner has been in possession of the Challenger since the 1980s and is willing to part ways with it for $5,000.
The body looks to be pristine as its body lines are still straight and the chrome isn’t too rusted. Rust is most prominent in the windshield gutter, corner lower cowl, floor pans, and trunk pan as well as the rear of the driver’s frame rail. So some body work and fabrication may be required to iron out some of the defects caused by oxidation and adverse weather conditions. The car will definitely need a new front clip and of course a paint job, but there is plenty of potential to make this baby into a real beast on the street.
Sure it may be dirty and neglected, but in the right hands all of this can change. It is truly a shame that someone would leave this to rot away outside. 1971 model year Challengers are among the most rare and although the drivetrain is missing, restoring this classic is well worth the investment.
To note, it originally had a 340 cubic-inch small block with a 727 automatic transmission. The firewall is in decent condition and also featured power brakes, power steering, air conditioning, and a stereo with a three-speaker dash setup. A little cleanup may be in line for this barn find, but it may be well worth the time.
Representing the end of the muscle car era, no one should be sleeping on this barn find steal. If you are a Mopar enthusiast, there’s plenty that can be done to bring this bucket back to its glory days. Would you take the bait and grab this rolling body Challenger? Let us know in the comments below.
