If you missed it after SEMA last year, we featured a custom 1967 Dodge Dart, built by the good folks at Finish Line Speed Shop out of Bremerton, Washington. The Dart was dubbed “Dream Dart” because it was a touching story about a car that’s been in the same family for over 40 years. The car made it to SEMA last fall, and one individual who wanted to see this project through was Mark Cain.

Mark worked tirelessly on the Dart, and insisted on helping to get the car done with his expert fabrication skills. Tragically, Mark lost his long battle with ALS and passed away in November, 2015, just days after the debut of the car he had put so much effort and hard work into.

ALS, or Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease to many who remember the baseball legend. It’s a progressive neurodegenerative disease and it simply destroys motor neurons, which are among the largest of all nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Our body receives it’s message through these nerve cells.

After losing his friend to ALS, it prompted Lyon McClenahan, owner of Finish Line Speed Shop, to do something a little different. Instead of building a car just to build a car, he set out to give back. In honor of Mark Cain and all he brought to the table, all he brought to Finish Line and his love and respect for the hot rodding community, McClenahan set up shop again to build a C10 pickup in Mark’s memory for the 2016 SEMA show, and has teamed up with Covercraft to unveil the build this November.

In a press release from Covercraft recently, McClenahan spoke of his relationship with Mark. “Mark was a true car guy and didn’t let ALS stop him. It had afflicted him to the point that he could no longer speak, but there he was at every car show walking around typing on his tablet or writing to communicate. His legacy lives on as we work together to assist other families currently battling this ugly disease”, says McClenahan.

We did get a couple of pictures of the ‘before’, and have the rendering below to show you what the C10 should look like once it’s completed. We will be bringing a full feature on it with plenty of detail photos from the SEMA show next month.

There are plenty of big names below the rendering, all helping to Strike Out ALS in Mark Cain’s honor. You’ll have a shot at owning this truck next spring.
