Craigslist is a minefield when it comes to finding a project car let alone transportation to and from work. So when a 1960 Edsel is listed for sale, the average classic car guy or gal is going to be scrolling through the listings looking for something a bit more desirable. However, when you you run across a heading that leads with hemi-powered, then it is going to attract a bit more attention.
The odds are against finding a 1960 Hemi-powered Edsel Ranger, but much like Florida, Craigslist is the land of oddities. According the listing, the Edsel Ranger is a survivor show car built by Doug Matix out of Dallas, Texas. Dubbed Silver Cloud, this Edsel was featured in 1001 Custom & Rod Ideas back in its heyday.
According to the seller, 1001 Custom & Rod Ideas stated that this car required 35 gallons of silver metal flake paint to achieve its fishing lure look. Although the paint is currently showing its age, this car had to be blinding in its prime.
To mellow out the flashy paint job, the Edsel was treated to a vinyl top. Other custom touches include button tufted Thunderbird bucket seats, custom tailored rear seat, lucite knobs and door locks, as well as a console that runs the entire length of the interior. From the driver’s seat, one will be able to keep tabs on the vital signs of the vehicle thanks to a custom dash with S-W gauges.
Talk about upgrades, this Ranger received one of the greatest engine swaps of all times during its time as a project car, a Hemi. Any three available engine options for the 1960 Edsel were no match for this serious power upgrade. A tri-power set up and four speed transmission make this no average Edsel. According to the listing this machine features chromed fender wells, steering box, hood hinges, and much more. For those interested in this Hemi-powered Edsel, the Craigslist ad is still active, so if you have $16,500 it might be worth looking into.
