If you’re ever unfortunate enough to have your vehicle stolen, chances are it’ll make the local news. But if you’re famous TV personality Dr. Phil McGraw and suffer the same misfortune, it’ll make virtually every entertainment, Hollywood and gossip publication in the country. That’s right, the TV host and somewhat controversial psychologist was recently the victim of an alleged theft when his 1957 Chevy Tri-Five convertible was taken from a repair shop in Burbank, California according to TMZ.com. By now you may have heard the news but questions remain, including how did the alleged criminal(s) know the car was even at the shop?

When you think of celebrity automotive enthusiasts, unless it’s someone like Jay Leno, you probably assume they have a crew to maintain their vehicles rather than working on them themselves (Dr. Phil has owned several cars in his day, including the fifth 2010 Camaro to come off the line which was also the first yellow one produced, according to Torque News). With Dr. Phil, however, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

According to the paparazzi website, McGraw and an unnamed friend were working on the ‘57 Chevy on Sunday trying to get it to start. When they were unsuccessful, the car was flatbedded to a repair shop in Burbank to diagnose and fix the problem.

Unfortunately, the car wasn’t at the shop for long. The repair shop reportedly called McGraw several hours after retrieving the car to tell him that his car, valued at $100,000, had allegedly been stolen.

Law enforcement officials are now involved with the case and told TMZ that the person(s) who stole the vehicle gained access to the shop by smashing through a roll-up garage door before making off with the vehicle.

A lot of questions are still lingering in this case, like how did the thieves know the car was at the repair shop, how did they access what we would guess to be an upscale facility without an alarm or someone notifying authorities right away, and how did they make off with a vehicle that didn’t run when it was brought into the shop quickly enough that no one noticed? Only time will tell if these or other questions about the case will be answered. Right now, we’re just keeping our fingers crossed that the car is found intact.
