Gary Bunker's 1940 Ford is the culmination of years of dreams, planning and hard work. It has been a show winner since its completion in 2009.
Gary Bunker designed his 1940 Ford right down to the last detail. He wanted performance, reliability, comfort and show-stopping good looks all wrapped up in the shape of a classic Ford. To bring that design into reality, Gary turned his plans over to Richardson’s Custom Auto Body of Hoquiam, Washington. Who says dreams don’t come true?
Gary’s dream car is powered by a Corvette LS1 engine backed up by a 4L65E Transmission with an overdrive, and 9 inch Ford rear end. The suspension is by Heidt’s and the car rolls on Toyo tires wrapped around 17 inch Foose wheels on the front and 18’s on the back. The paint inside and out is by PPG with custom color formulas blended especially for Gary.

LS1 Corvette engine, GM 4L65E Trans w/ overdrive and a 9 inch Ford rear were chosen for their performance and reliability. The car is driven regularly in the desert with no problems!
The lush comfort and modern amenities that are featured in Gary’s Ford were probably never dreamed of by Henry. Power windows, power seats, climate control, adjustable steering column, cruise control and unobtrusive yet elegant sound system make Gary’s car and inviting choice for a road trip. Just drink water only and don’t drop any crumbs! Even the trunk looked so comfortable that you could curl up in there for a quick nap and wake up without a backache.
It’s a given that people involved in hot rodding are very creative whether it be in design or in craft. I also believe that car people are friendlier than most. People like Gary Bunker raise the bar for all of these criteria even higher.

If you ever enter a show and happen to find Gary occupying the space next to you, consider yourself fortunate. When I met him, he was talking with folks about the '57 Chevy parked next to him. Although he had met them just the day before, he was watching over their car like a mother hen while these weary travelers who drove all the way from British Columbia to attend this event took some time to acclimate themselves to southern Nevada.
