We recently ran a piece on the high profile road tour tribe that would be making its way down to the Texas Motor Speedway for the Goodguys 21st Lonestar Nationals. The three day event will be taking place from October 4th through the 6th.
The fall nationals weekend will be a nice change of weather and backdrop. It will feature over 2,500 hot rods, customs, classics, muscle cars, and trucks through 1972.
The Lonestar Nats is an event packed full of different activities and functions including an autocross event, NASCAR stock car rides, vendor and manufacturer exhibits, a swap meet, an Auto Trader sales corral, live music, and no shortage of entertainment for the kids.
Just as important as your itinerary during the event will also be your post day plans. Whether you’re with family or friends, the newly opened Gas Monkey Bar & Grill will surely attract denizens and visitors alike providing a night of festivity and merriment.
If you’re not familiar with the Gas Monkey brand name, the folks behind the auto shop seen on Discovery Channel’s Fast n’ Loud have been around cars since they were kids. With roots in the auto world, venturing on to media, and now to the food business, the folks at Gas Monkey are certainly on an aggressive and ambitious campaign to diffuse the brand.
Richard Rawlings, the project director at Gas Monkey Garage teamed up with Alex Medonsa who will be the new restaurant’s general manager. Medonsa has been around the food and club business for awhile, Rawlings scouted him in Las Vegas while Medonsa was running House of Blues.
Alex Medonsa had this to say about the dynamic duo, Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufman of Gas Monkey Garage, “One of the things we saw surrounding the Gas Monkey Guys is that they have such explosive personalities. The show itself has this mass appeal, whether you are blue or white collar, whatever, you can get behind someone that has this skill and does what they do. Richard and Aaron have a great time. So the concept is to take some of what they do over there and take that opportunity to create this amazing live music venue in a restaurant and night club type atmosphere.
Among other highlights the restaurant will feature an outdoor music venue equipped with a massive 70,000 watt sound system imported from Spain. There will also be a smaller venue within the restaurant situated in the main dining area.
More than 32 taps will be connected and will provide a rotating selection of local craft brews as well as some of the countries elect craft selections. Fort Worth chef David Hollister formerly from the Yucatan Taco Stand will be creating Gas Monkey’s Tex Mex menu. “The fixtures in the building, including the walls and seating, are made from reclaimed wood and metal found nearly everywhere by the Monkeys.”
The restaurant has had its soft opening and staff is busy prepping the stage for a slew of concerts that have been booked over the coming months.
Gas Monkey Bar and Grill is projecting its grand opening sometime this month, just in time to get situated for the 21st Lonestar Nats! If you’re looking for a place to hangout and unwind after an eventful day of cars this just might be that place.
The transition over to Gas Monkey Bar and Grill is little more than three miles away from the Gas Monkey Garage as well. Let your buddies know, let your family know that the new bar and grill might just have to be a pit stop along your route.
