Goodguys Top 12 And How To Be Eligible For This Year’s Top Spots

The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association has some of the world’s most coveted awards. One of the key factors that makes this the case is the amazing quality of the cars entered in their club and shows. There are twelve top awards that cover the bases of different style and type of builds; Custom Of The Year, March Performance Street Rod D’Elegance, Tank’s Hot Rod Of The Year, Classic Instruments Street Rod Of The Year, Optima Batteries Street Machine Of The Year, Flowmaster America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod, Accel Autocrosser Of The Year, Vintage Air Custom Rod Of The Year, Rocket Racing Wheels Muscle Car Of The Year, Grundy Worldwide Insurance Muscle Machine Of The Year, Street Rod Headquarters Truck Of The Year – Early and finally LMC Truck Parts Truck Of The Year – Late.

Each of these awards breaks out a unique section of the hot rod world. Here is a breakdown of some of the awards:

Goodguys 2015 Custom of the Year

Who’s Eligible: Custom cars from 1936 to 1972. This award will be given to a car that displays an exceptional build style and quality. The award is open to all types of builds, from traditional to modern and all between.

How to Enter:  The vehicle will be selected from the indoor section of the 33rd All American Get-Together on March 28-29, 2015 in Pleasanton, California.

2014 Winner: James Hetfield’s “Black Pearl”

Goodguys 2015 March Performance Street Rod D’ Elegance 

Who’s Eligible: Street Rods through 1948 model year. The award is designed to celebrate a high qulity and elegant street rod.

How to Enter: The vehicle will be selected from the indoor car show at the 15th Del Mar Nationals on April 10-12, 2015 in Del Mar, California.

2014 Winner: Wes and Vivian Rydell’s 1935 Chevy Phaeton

Goodguys 2015 Tank’s Hot Rod of the Year

Who’s Eligible: All Hot Rods model year 1948 and earlier are eligible. The criteria is simple, “It makes noise; it’s regularly street driven, has a mean attitude and screams HOT ROD.”

How to Enter: The top Hot Rod will be chosen at the 2nd Indy Nationals on June 5-7, 2015 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Entrants who are entering for the award will be gathered together and will run a 100 mile cruise around Indianapolis, including an 1/8th mile run on the drag strip. Times and speeds don’t count but style does. Finalists from the cruise and drag run will be displayed together and the winner selected on Sunday.

2014 Winner: Tony Lombardi’s 1931 Model A Ford

Goodguys 2015 Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year 

Who’s Eligible: Street Rods through 1948 Model Year

How to Enter: Entrants will park in a special area, the “Cardinal Lot”. This award will go to a top end masterpiece. Fit, form and function are some of the highly regarded attributes the judges will be looking for. Over all creativity and concept are paramount.

2014 Winner: Don Smith’s 1932 Ford Fordor

Goodguys 2015 Optima Batteries Street Machine of the Year

Who’s Eligible: Vehicles from 1954 to 1972 that exhibit a pure street machine attitude. Quality, overall engineering and concept are a few of the elements that will be reviewed.

How to Enter: Candidates will park in the “Cardinal Lot” and will participate in a two-lap Goodguys Autocross. Speed and times will now affect the winning score card but style definitely counts.

2014 Winner: Steve Tornari’s 1967 Chevy Nova
