Home-Built Hero: Jedd Schola’s ’69 Camaro

camaro 5Jedd Schola is a true Chevy guy from the small town of Philippi, West Virginia, and calls his Pro Touring ’69 Camaro Eleanor. From what we can tell, the popular Mustang has nothing on this F-body. Anyway, Jedd told us, “My father and I bought the car from a guy in Belpre, Ohio, in 1993.” And as great as this car looks now, it wasn’t always this nice. According to Jedd, “It received two complete restorations. One was finished it in 1996, and the second was completed after the car was stolen in 2011.”

We all know that criminals are dumb, but if you're going to be one, at least know what you're doing...

That’s right, this Camaro was in the hands of some unscrupulous bums that tried to highjack the car. Jedd affirmed, “In 2011, thieves attempted to steal the car from the hotel parking lot while we were at the Goodguys PPG Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. Once the thieves figured out they couldn’t start the car, they vandalized it. The door lock was beaten into the door panel, and you can also see the steering column was peeled back like a banana.” That prompted the second restoration where the black paint and body work were completed by BRC in Anmore West Virginia.

Updated and better than new.

Once that was done, Jedd mentioned that there was then an engine fire that caused minor damage under the hood. Unfortunately, there was yet another incident after the fire. This final stroke of unfortunate luck occurred four years later as Jedd was transporting the Camaro in an enclosed trailer, and there was an “incident.” Jedd told us, “While coming into a blind turn, I suddenly had to stop very quickly. The rear straps holding the car broke, and the car came crashing into the front of the trailer. The front end was demolished.” Per Jedd, “The car has an attitude, and that is why I call it Eleanor.”

Jedd tells us that the engine is the numbers matching 350ci small-block that features four-bolt mains, and is bored .030-inch oversized, and the bottom end is pumping with a Scat rotating assembly. Spinning in the middle of the block is a Comp Cams bumpstick, and perched on top of the White Performance-prepped aluminum heads is a B&M supercharger with a boost referenced 950 cfm Demon carburetor. An MSD ignition and Dynatech headers with a 3-inch exhaust and Borla mufflers round out the power making duties.

Behind the engine is a 700R4 with a 12-bolt rearend filled with 4.10 gears.

Since we mentioned that Jedd’s car is a Pro Touring-style build, you can bet the suspension uses some upgraded components as well. For instance, the Billet Specialties wheels on the front are supported by upper and lower control arms by Detroit Speed, and a QA1 coilovers holding the nose up, while Detroit Speed rear leaf springs and QA1 adjustable shocks support the rear.  By the way, all four Billet Specialties wheels are wrapped in Nitto rubber.

A true Home-Built Hero.

The interior has been updated with parts like TMI seats, a Billet Specialties steering wheel, Flaming River steering column, and a B&M shifter.

It’s been a long hard road, but Jedd’s perseverance has paid off with a gorgeous first-gen that anyone can be proud of.
