Have you ever taken a drive down an old country road and saw something that you just had to stop for? One of our readers did just that, and stopped to get a bunch of pictures of some old and classic iron sitting in the woods for an eternity.
The interesting part of the gallery that Tim Harrison has posted on his Facebook page is that all of the cars seem to be relatively intact with many usable parts. However, that green color that has taken over the body panels could be hiding so much rust that there’s no telling just how bad all that sheet metal is.
Harrison tells us that the area, which is in Southern Missouri, floods quite often and many of the cars seem to have spent a bit of time under water, as there is a lot of silt on many of the headliners in these cars. People from that area in Missouri might know exactly where this is, but out of respect for the property owner he’s not giving too many details exactly where it is.
Most of these cars are from decades before the original musclecars ever hit the scene, and Harrison says the newest vehicles he could find were from the early 1960s. He said that was about the last time that any car was put in that yard, and they’ve all been sitting ever since.
While it’s sad to see that these cars are just rusting away in the woods, this is not an unusual scene, we’ve featured other yards that have tons of cars just sitting with no hope for survival. As sad as this scene may be to many purists and gearheads alike, it’s still something that makes for a great photo album, and who of us wouldn’t like to walk through those woods and take in a bit of nostalgia (and maybe an old emblem or two)?
Enjoy the scenery, however painful it might be to look at some of these they’re like the train wreck that you just can’t look away from. How many new project cars did you conjure up from the gallery below?
