In the world of automotive performance, reliability and aesthetics, there’s nothing quite like driving an old vehicle with modern amenities. Often times, we see this combination in classic muscle cars and street rods, but not as often do we find it in the vintage truck segment. RK Motors Charlotte, however, just happens to have such a truck and it’s one of the coolest Ford pickups you might ever have the chance of owning.
The base truck is a 1952 Ford F1 pickup, complete with solid American steel lines, classic Ford truck badging, a sleek wood bed and that iconic three-toothed grin. But underneath all that classic glamor is the guts of a more modern performance machine.
From a full frame-off restoration in 2009, this custom creation was born, sporting none other than a 5.8L Lightning V8 under the hood. Complete with GT40 heads, high-performance pistons, a hot cam, and modern computer programming, this quaint Ford V8 power plant allots the the classic truck a decent 240 horsepower. Backing the engine is an easy-to-cruise four-speed automatic transmission.
A new dual exhaust system sporting an X-pipe and dual-chamber Thrush mufflers lets the modern computer-driven V8 breath effortlessly with a crowd pleasing note, while a Lightning intake, large aluminum radiator and an electric puller fan keep the mill cool even at cruising speeds.
The truck was also treated to some modern improvements below the drivetrain, including a rebuilt suspension with power rack-and-pinion steering, power front and rear disc brakes, and 15-inch custom painted wheels wrapped in 235/70 (front) and 255/70 (rear) Kelly Charger tires.
A powder-coated chassis, stainless fluid lines, and a new stainless fuel tank take this mix of classic and modern over the top.
Aesthetically, the truck appeals to all aspects of classic design under a gorgeous coat of DuPont Razzlin’ Red stage-two with plenty of chrome trim. The interior follows suit with a Razzlin’ Red dash fitted with an Alpine CD player, modern air conditioning and gauges from Classic Instruments.
Body-matched doors continue the Razzlin’ Red theme throughout the truck’s cab while an “F1 Lightning” branded tan seat offers passenger comfort and a throw to the truck’s modern performance engine. Topping off the interior is a leather-wrapped, banjo-style steering wheel atop a Flaming River tilt steering column, along with power windows and locks for safety and ease of use.
RK Motors Charlotte is currently asking $39,900 for the truck and expects a sale to go through any day. If you’re interested in this truck or any other vehicle in RK Motors Charlotte’s inventory, be sure to contact them online or by phone for more details on your perfect dream ride!
