Project In Process: Boosted 54, Twin-Turbo LS-Powered ’54 Chevy

54chev [1]

If you have not heard of or seen anything of this new twin-turbo LS-powered 1954 Chevy project car being built by James McKey, then feast your hungry eyes on this beautiful new hot rod under construction at this very moment. The exterior image above is, of course, an illustration created by masters of automotive rendering Transou Design [2]. However, the remaining images are actual build photographs taken by the creator McKey, and are just a few of the dozens posted for your added viewing pleasure on his website Boosted54.com [3].

boosted54-2 [4]The shell for the incredibly gorgeous project is a 1954 Chevrolet that was completely sand blasted down to the bare metal, then painted with an Evergreen Paint [5] epoxy primer to completely seal the body metal from any corrosion. McKey fabricated a custom frame bit by bit, and built the center section of it following a photograph of an Art Morrison frame. With the help of a C-4 crossmember conversion kit from Progressive Automotive [6], the frame will support a Corvette independent front suspension.

A set of Ridetech [7] ShockWaves air-over-shock dampers will be combined with an AccuAir [8] E-Level kit to create the suspension system, and will all be controlled by McKey though his iPhone or iPod mini, which can be concealed in a hidden panel in the car’s console. American Racing Wheels [9] with Falken Tires [10] are on the build list.

boosted54-1 [11]The audio system will be a full-tilt custom MB Quart [12] system with an Arc Audio [13] digital processor, Pioneer [14] app radio, Cascade Audio Engineering [15] amp/power supply, and Maxxlink [16] wiring, distribution and fusing. Body mod’s will include such subtle features as 1956 Nomad bumpers, and McKey has used an 2005-2006 GTO dash section because he liked the way that its design looked like the car’s trunk lid.

The 1954 Chevy also has an extended and raised fender line onto the door, ’55 eyebrows, frenched headlights, shaved handles and key holes, a ’55 Chevrolet front bumper, the grill is a combo of car and truck, the firewall is notched 5-inches to allow engine set back, the driveline and trans tunnel have been raised, and the moldings, bumpers, and grill are black chrome. Additional mod’s to the project were just too numerous to list, but you can keep abreast of the work as it progresses at Boosted54.com [3].
