So-Cal Speed Shop Building ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons’ “Wiskeyrunner”
The life of a rock star, while envious, is also a lot of work. That is why many artists reward themselves with extravagant homes and outrageous custom vehicles to enjoy in their limited down time. ZZ Top’s guitarist Billy Gibbons is a busy guy, complying with a busy schedule as a living rock legend.
Gibbons isn’t shy about his sometimes eccentric tastes, so it only makes sense that he approached the world-famous So-Cal Speed Shop to build him a custom hot rod codenamed “Whiskeyrunner,” which was previewed on So Cal Speed’s Facebook page.
We’re not sure if Gibbons plans on turning in his guitar for the life of a moonshiner, but this all-steel hot rod looks like it is based on a ‘33 Ford 3-window coupe.
The most interesting feature is the jagged line running from front to back and over a grille on the front fender/hood. Like most So-Cal Speed Shop projects, this one is chopped, channeled, and shaved.
The So-Cal Speed Shop is famous for its hot rods, so it is no wonder Gibbons would approach them about this project. That engine Whiskeyrunner will pack, we don’t know…though wouldn’t it be cool if it ran on straight alcohol? We hope that’s in the works, so it can live up to its name and heritage as a moonshiner’s ride.
