Street Feature: A ’38 Chevy Pickup Driven 1,680 Miles To The Show

While they didn’t leave with the long-distance award, Kevin and Donna Whiteford still drove 1,680 miles from their home in Waseca, Minnesota, to the Goodguys Pacific Northwest Nationals show in Puyallup, Washington. And no, they didn’t trailer their ’38 Chevy pickup, they drove it. The truck is 100% home-built and features a 4.3-liter fuel injected V8 engine out of a 1994 S10 blazer. Along with the modern motor came the 4L60E automatic transmission and 3.08:1 geared rearend. “Three days at 75 miles per hour,” Kevin said. “It feels good to sit down.”

The irony isn't lost on us that their last name is Whiteford and they are driving a white Chevy.

Kevin built street rods professionally for 25 years, so he knew what to do and how to do it right. He and his wife both are also active members of the Minnesota Street Rod Association, and that’s something very important to them. They are also certified NSRA safety inspectors.

They’ve had this truck since 1985, but this is the first summer it’s been done and out on the road and it’s already got 7,500 miles on it. “From our door to registration it was 1,680 miles,” Kevin explained. It took ten years’ worth of work to finish this project, but that was mainly because Kevin was building hotrods for other folks at the same time, so this was a sideline project. The truck was built for Kevin’s son to inherit, that’s why the plate says TMSTRK.

We love Kevin’s truck, and we’d love to see what you folks are driving out there. If you love it, odds are good that we will too, so shoot us an email with a couple pictures and a little information on your ride, you might just see it here as one of our Street Features.
