The Race of Gentlemen pays homage to early American racing heritage. Hosted by Oilers Car Club, the 68th annual Race of Gentlemen will feature pre-war automobiles duking it out on the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey this October.
Shortened to TROG, The Race Of Gentlemen began in 1947 where gentlemen and cars reigned supreme. The event is open to all ages, aiming to give spectators an exciting race and also a history lesson on early American racing culture.
Featuring vintage cars and motorcycles, there will be plenty of Dodge Brothers, Excelcior, Ford, Harley Davidson, and Indian machines ready to rev. Racing on the coastal sands of Wildwood, New Jersey, The Race Of Gentlemen will have the coast roaring with engines and exuberant viewers.
“We have always held a great appreciation for our American automotive heritage and the ingenuity of all those that came before us,” said Mel Stultz of the Oilers Car Club. “From the engeneering geniuses of the Industrial Revolution to the backyard mechanics that turned a set of tools and gumption into what we know as hot rodding today, the Race of Gentlemen was created to celebrate that rich and exciting history and our “can do” spirit that made this country so great!”
A tradition that is similar to kustom kulture, The Race Of Gentlemen serves as a tribute to vintage American car and motorcycle history. With the fast growing pace of society, The Race Of Gentlemen serves as a friendly reminder of where it all started and what it has become today.
