During Goodguys All American Nationals, Indianapolis Tony Lombardi’s ’30 Model A was awarded the great honor of being named this year’s Goodguys 2014 Tank’s Hot Rod of the Year. The Ohio native was awarded the title after a rigorous judging circuit.
According to Goodguys, “The criteria is unique in that it’s the only major Goodguys Top 12 award which requires participants to drive on a 100-mile reliability run as well as an 1/8th mile blast down the drag strip.”
Lombardi and his Model A had all the right pedigree to meet the challenge as he’d already driven from Ohio to Texas earlier this year. “Not only did the potent little coupe handle the drive with ease, it blasted down Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis with an elapsed time of 9.316 seconds–the third fastest elapsed time of the day,” says Goodguys. Lombardi lovingly named his car “Little Miss Che-Vious” after his 15-year old daughter Julia, a straight-A student. Julia accompanied Tony on the car’s 3,000-mile maiden voyage this year. That will definitely be a lifelong memory for the two.
For being crowned Hot Rod of the Year Tony will be treated to many perks. Among bragging rights for the rest of the year, additional accommodations courtesy of Goodguys will include, “being one of the Top 12 featured cars of the Goodguys event season, a custom toolbox from Snap-on, and travel accommodations to the season-ending Goodguys 17th Southwest Nationals November 14-16 at Westworld in Scottsdale, Arizona.”
