Back in June 5-7, 2015, more than 3,500 vehicles lined up next to each other at the York Expo Center in York, Pennsylvania for the National Street Rod Association Street Rod Nationals East Plus. This is the 42nd Annual event and it just gets bigger every single year. The show is open to all vehicles manufactured prior to 1985. Of those thousands of amazing cars, NSRA officials walk around the entire show and make selections of the top cars on display. One of the cars that quickly got noticed by the judges was Vince Jackson’s 1955 Chevy.
With one quick look at this car, it is easy to see exactly why it was chosen as a Selection. The classic Tri-5 body lines were cut and modified to make it a one of a kind and El Camino-ish piece of amazingness. In addition to the radical sheetmetal, Jackson Dropped in an LS2 V8 engine that is mated up to a 4L60E transmission. The late model motor and transmission certainly help keep the car highway friendly.
Backing up the modern powertrain is a modern suspension attached to the stock frame. Jackson affixed a complete C4 Corvette suspension to the original steel chassis. Falken Tires keep the car sticking to the ground; along with 18-inch rear wheels and 17-inch fronts.
The amazing detail put into the build of this car certainly sets it apart from the mass of others on the market now. Who doesn’t love an El Camino? For more info on the NSRA, visit www.nsra-usa.com.
