Tri-Five Chevy Overload

IMG_0063On August 12 and 13 of 2015, the Earth’s rotational pull felt an anomaly as the horsepower generated at the Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals tried to force this rotating marble to spin the other way. On this weekend, Bowling Green, Kentucky, was a Tri-Five Chevy-collector’s dream location, as thousands of Chevrolet’s 1955, 1956, and 1957 coupes, sedans and wagons gathered at the historical dragstrip. There was not one person argued the statement that this was quite possibly the largest-ever grouping of 1955 through 1957 Chevy Bow Tie vehicles in one place. Fortunately for us, roving photographer Mike Horne was on hand to shoot photos, and take in all the action.

How about a little Two Lane Blacktop tribute!

The Tri-Five Chevy-only party was thrown by Danchuk, with organizational help from by Woody’s Hot Rodz. There is no questioning the historical significance of Beech Bend Raceway Park, and a better setting could not have been found. If for some unexplainable reason you were able get your fill at the race track, it was just a short jaunt to Chevrolet’s Corvette plant, the Corvette Museum, and the National Corvette Museum Motorsports track.

If you needed to stretch your legs, the Corvette Museum was just up the road.

The nice thing about a specialized gathering like this is that you will find everything from bone-stock AACA judged restorations to barn finds and modified street cars everywhere. This was definitely Tri-Five overload. And if you thought that wish merely a static show, think again. You could hear the roar of injected big-blocks, blown small-blocks, and everything in between for both days.

We might have found our next project.

What some might consider a strange sight is a one of Chevy’s iconic 50’s road warriors doing battle on a course with sharp left and right-hand turns. You heard correctly, there was an autocross event. Finally, if you were looking for parts, you were in luck. There were no less than 50 manufacturers on the “midway”, and swap spaces galore.

There is nothing like a wheels-up wagon!

Although this is s fairly new event, the turn out of spectators and participants has almost guaranteed that this show will continue to grow in the coming years. For that reason, you might want to start making plans to attend next year’s event. It’s sure to be crowded.
