Back in the 1930s, folks who were lucky enough to be able to afford a new car and wanted to roll in style could get their hands on one of these Ford two-doors. For 1937, Ford had refreshed its car lineup with a V-shaped grille that stretched backwards into a more rounded overall shape. The move marked Ford’s first attempt at modeling after European cars, and today make for highly collectible pieces.
Lou Costabile and his traveling show, “My Car Story,” recently made a stop at the Chicago World Of Wheels event on March 12th, where the man got to get up close and personal with one such automobile. The car’s owners, Scott and Anne Jobb, are proud of what they claim to be the only 1937 cabriolet in the entire world, and have suped it up to a level befitting such a unique ride.
“I’ve had it for seven years,” says Jobb. “I’m the second owner. It was pretty used-up when I first got it, and it took us about three years to restore it into its present condition. Between shows, we have about a 30-hour procedure to bring it back to this level of perfection.”
Don’t let the amount of care and devotion fool you, though; the car is actually driven by Jobb and his family, and is especially suited for summertime drives to go grab some ice cream. Full A/C and leather seats round out the ride comfort for fun excursions, too, while a chrome-covered small block Chevy V8 offer up plenty of get-up-and-go.
Jobb’s investment in the car is one that we can’t help but admire. He really went the extra mile to have his ride stand out, and it will continue to do so no matter the venue. Check out Costabile’s channel on YouTube to see other cars of this caliber.
