Although this monstrous beast is labelled as a trike, it strays from the norm and gives us just about every aspect of a hot rod. Consider that it has four tires, an instrument cluster, fat rear tires on custom wheels, a set of headers, and a blown, dual plug, HEMI engine. Okay, so it has a single seat and handlebars for steering, but that’s about all that makes this unique trike anything less than a muscle car.
Found over at the Blastolene.com web site, this super cool trike called the Rocket II was built by Michael Leeds. It debuted at the Grand National Roadster Show in 2009 and won the best engineered award, and it certainly has our vote.
If you think that maybe some of this shiny metal looks a little familiar, it could be because Blastolene is the same group of talented artists who brought us Jay Leno’s infamous “Tank Car” and the wickedly wild “Pissed-off Pete” custom semi. The tank car has, you guessed it, a tank engine and an extremely long wheelbase. Pissed-off Pete is a custom chopped Peterbilt with a 12v71 Detroit Diesel sporting a pair of 671 blowers.
Checking out this trike, it’s definitely a beast with a bit of a learning curve. The blown HEMI power and a lightweight body is a killer combination, and it looks like it would be easy to get it sideways in a turn. You can see in the second video below how easily it does a burnout, and how cool it would be to cruise the canyons with it.
The guys over at Blastolene have built some extremely wild machines and from the looks of their site it seems they have a few more custom builds in progress, too. We’re not usually inclined to feature a trike, but this one deserves to be shared because it’s just too cool to keep to ourselves.
