Video: Chip Foose, BASF And The Future Of Paint Technology

Most in the custom automotive would agree that paint determines the visual impact of a show vehicle, but automotive refinishing products have to also display excellent quality and durability throughout a vehicle’s shelf life on the show circuit and when tasked with driving duties as well.

On top of the visual aspect, automotive finishes have to guarantee excellent mechanical properties in order to extend its wear time and protect automobiles from scratches, environment, chemical exposure, etc. In addition, paint also plays a large role in the success of any project, whether it’s off to the Detroit AutoRama [2] or just a daily driver to share with friends and local cruise nights.

This is why we took the opportunity while visiting Detroit for what would be considered the annual Super Bowl for paintwork, the Detroit AutoRama, to spend some time with our friends over at BASF [4]

We caught up with Mike Carroll to talk about everything from its history, to current products to what the future holds with the company’s 90-Line waterborne, and in turn they also walked the grounds of the AutoRama with us to check out Chip Foose and his latest debut – Eldorod.

Touring the BASF headquarters we met with Tony Dyach, Market Segment Manager for Glasurit to talk a little shop:

And we also got a chance to chat with Marketing Director for BASF coatings, Vitor Margaronis to delve deeper into the future of paint technologies:

If you’re looking for more information about BASF, just drop by their website [4] and check out all they have to offer. Good luck on your next paint project, and stay tuned as we dive deeper into the world of custom paint and body right here on Rod Authority!
