Black and white smoke does not make for a gray day when we’re talking about diesel truck burnouts. There’s just something awe-inspiring about this cool Cummins-powered ’55 truck being able to roast its tires on demand. This is the kind of rolling thunder you’ll never hear when it’s raining outside, so you’ll certainly not want to let your tree-hugging girlfriends see this video.
There’s no doubt that burnouts can be spectacular as well, but this ’55 takes it to a whole new level. If you thought that diesel meant slow and noisy, well you were just half right. Others may need particular tricks to make an impressive burnout video, but this hauler only needs your right foot to shake the earth.
This ‘rodded pickup touts some serious oomph, sporting a ’92 Dodge Cummins plant. According to “1bad55chev,” the owner and builder, the turbo diesel blew a head gasket, so it now has an o-ringed head, ARP studs, p7100 pump with 4000rpm springs, and a huge water-to-air aftercooler. When asked, ibad55chev revealed that he’s also running a “tiny” 12-inch fan, and estimates about 450 horsepower with nearly double that in torque.
Getting those big tires smoking is all about torque and we all know that’s what diesel trucks have in spades. So here, check out this video for you to enjoy. Turn up your speakers and the only thing you’ll be missing is the smell of roasting rubber.
