Rhys Gilbert’s traditional ’34 Ford Tudor was recently captured by the folks at Noisy Brigade. They sat down with Rhys and got the low-down on him and his hot rod. The reel was shot in the Macedon Ranges, a region in Australia highlighted by its rich native history, beautiful rural landscapes, and back country pathways. According to Rhys, “the car originally came from Argentina, it was smuggled into the states by the previous owner who was a farmer.” Rhys wanted to honor 50s hot rodding and went for the traditional high-boy look reminiscent of heyday hot rodding on the lake beds.

“The car was built in 55 days by my brother and I for Chopped 2012. My car club, the Eldorados put it on me to sort of try and get the car built for Chopped. I took a month off work and it was just eight to ten hour days flat out sourcing parts–checking up leads for bits that I was missing.”

The car boasts a lot of classic flavor. A Ford Flathead with a weathered gold paint job, the original 3-speed transmission, and tasteful ox blood upholstery create an overall build that is simple, bare bones, but equal parts tasteful and timeless.

The following is an excerpt from the filmers of Noisy Brigade describing a portion of the day: “Driving in this car can only be described as raw, fun, and exciting. You can hear every little movement and noise the car makes. The wind blew through small areas in the side windows and the motor purred along making this one great car to ride in. The experience was a great one, whilst not as polished as some other cars I have been in, these factors made this one all that more fun.”
