When you think hot rods, it’s common to think that the United States is its only adherent and passionate supporter. Along with apple pie, rock ‘n roll, and bald eagles, the land of the free and the home of the brave is certainly the best place to go looking for these old-school rides.
Australia, however, is in a lot of ways a close cousin to the US of A when it comes to automotive enthusiasm, and hot rods are no exception. For evidence of this, one need look no further than the Bright’s Iconic Rod Run held in Bright, Victoria, Australia. In fact, were it not for those adorable Aussie accents we hear in the video above, it’s not hard to imagine falling upon a very similar scene at a Goodguys show here in the States.
The event, which took place November 7-9 of this year, is an annual shindig that attracts thousands to the lovely, small city, nestled in an enjoyable climate where the average high is 69º Fahrenheit (and it even snows in January and February). 2014 marked the show’s 23rd anniversary, and folks were all too happy to barrel down to balmy weather to meet chill owners and see cool cars.
As we see in the video, kustom kulture is alive and very well with our friends down under. Here we see an Impala operating its front air bags, there we see a ’32 Ford roadster making its way down the main drag, and still elsewhere there are loads of lead sleds, Tri-Fives, and slammed pickups all glistening in the sun.
It’s fair to say a good time was had by all who attended this year’s Bright’s Iconic Rod Run, and the future is Bright (zing!) as 2015 rounds the corner. Check out a full recap of the happenings at the show by heading to the BIRR website, where you’ll find galleries, merchandise, and more.
