Fast cars aren’t for everyone; not all human beings are up for the thrills and chills that come with going faster than a person is meant to go. There’s nothing wrong with being sane enough to know that people shouldn’t be driving 100+ mph in a car whose design dates back to the Great Depression. But these people are definitely missing out.
Then again, maybe sometimes it is for the best if certain people stay out of fast cars. This next video shows reluctant reporter Dick Wolfsy being urged to take a ride in the ‘33 Ford hot rod of RideTech owner Bret Voelkel at the 2nd annual Goodguys Nationals at IMS. What follows is horrifying for Wolfsy, hilarious for everybody else.
Granted, everything in Voelkel’s Factory Five Racing ‘33 Ford is brand new and high-tech, but we doubt Wolfsy knew that. Still, props to the obviously-terrified reporter for getting in, though its clear the poor bastard instantly regrets it. Then again, if he knew there was 427 cubic-inches of engine up front backed by a beefy transmission and the best hot rod suspension you can buy, maybe he would have protested even more.
Despite pleas of “Go slow,” Voelkel shows no mercy, whipping the ‘33 Ford around the autocross viciously while Wolfsy holds on for dear life. He can be heard whimpering, whining, and shouting “No, no!” as the head of RideTech takes him on a ride unlike any he has experienced before. He even spins out on the course…just ‘cause he can.
By the time Voelkel pulls in, Wolfsy has shut his eyes, probably praying for the ride to end. The look on his face? Absolutely priceless. You just can’t make this stuff up. Make sure to watch the vid all the way through for full automotive enjoyment at someone else’s expense.
