Video: Texas Nostalgia Drag Races and Show at “The Nasty”

It’s widely accepted that drag racing is one of the cornerstones of hot rodding. Therefore it stands to reason that nostalgia drag racing events are some of the most popular for the spectator and participant alike. A great compilation video that supports this theory comes to us from Kevin Maurer of Nitro Art Video. His coverage of the Navasota Niftee 50ees Nostalgic Drags is compelling evidence that the roots of hot rodding are strong and vibrant.

Maurer’s video above does a masterful job of combining action, still photography, and musical background to convey the festival atmosphere that can be found at most events such as this. A full-length DVD that contains extensive coverage of this event is available at the Nitro Art Video website.

Niftee 50ees Classic Cruisers who organized this and other events in the greater Houston area is not a car club. It is an organization dedicated to the preservation of the hot rod and car culture lifestyle of the mid-20th century. Automotive entries to the Navasota event were restricted to pre-1970 vehicles. However according to their website, Niftee 50ees automotive events now allow vehicles of 1979 vintage and earlier.

If it is fun, they will come! The race and show depicted in this video proves that the latest and greatest facilities are not required to have successful and well attended events.

This event was held at Navasota Raceway in Navasota, Texas. The venue, also known as “The Nasty” ran an 1/8th-mile event on that day. Judging from the video, the Raceway facilities appeared to be rather rundown and in need of maintenance. However, the expressions on the faces of competitors and spectators alike all seem to reflect positive and satisfied attitudes. Then again, it is no secret that hot rodders and race fans do not necessarily require the latest and greatest facilities to enjoy their sport. All that is necessary is a safe environment where people can compete, enjoy and have fun!
