Within the car culture are many dozens of sub-cultures and sects, from old men putzing along in brass era automobiles to young guys driving big-wheeled donks, cars are universally appealing. Yet for our money, no sub-culture of cars has the same level of cool that hot rodding does. Maybe it’s the built-by-hand aspect, or the devil-may-care attitude of many hot rodders.

Or maybe it’s the girls. Come to think of it, it is almost definitely the girls. Just watch this two-minute montage of hot rods and hot girls if you need some more convincing.

Rising to prominence and popularity during the post-war 50’s, hot rodding really took off in America just as women started latching on to the idea of sexual revolution. It didn’t take long for the less-conservative ladies to ditch house work and go for a ride with the boys in the hot rod. Thus we have outfits and styles from across many different eras, all associated with hot rods.

One trend that has always stuck by hot rods though is that of the outsider, which is why so many of these women are covered in tattoos and wearing sultry outfits. Don’t get us wrong, there are a lot of cool cars in this video too…but we can’t help but wonder if it wasn’t women who made hot rods so cool in the first place.
