SEMA 2015: Chris Alston’s Chassisworks’ New C10 Suspension System

IMG_3637Chassis geometry can be a difficult thing to get right without the book-lesson theory, real-world experience, and facilities to do the work. Industry standards like Chris Alston have been around long enough to know a thing or two about setting up the framework for a successful performance once the vehicle is launched.

In the Chris Alston’s Chassisworks booth, we caught up with the company’s latest in bolt-on performance chassis and suspension gear. Among the numerous new offerings were two extensively developed kits to transform your classic musclecar or C10 truck into a handling machine.

“Our rear four-link system is a complete bolt-on with a Watts link that comes with dual coilovers, Shockwaves, or airbags. We make models of it for the 1963 to 1980 C10s, and have different rate springs for different weight trucks. Customers can order with non-adjustable, single, or double-adjustable coilovers. Same with airbags, you can get a single, or double-adjustable Shockwave,” says Chris Alston.

For musclecars, Chris Alston Chassisworks has developed a torque-arm suspension for road racing, autocross, and performance driving.

This system is offered for both 1967-81 Camaros, Firebirds, Chevy IIs, and Novas.

“It consists of sub-frame connectors on the center support that you mount the torque arm to, and then it has lower link-bars that are adjustable for anti-squat. It has a splined end antiroll bar, and this particular one has four-way shock absorbers on it,” explains Alston.

“This is a Watts link that has adjustable roll-centers on it. What’s really cool about ours is the ball bearings in the center pivot, so it’s incredibly rigid.”
