Some hot rods stand above the crowd no matter what. The thing about these cars is that no matter the build style, or the vintage of the car everyone appreciates it. The video above by ScottieDTV of a wicked 1951 Chevy “Tin Woody” received a comment by someone on YouTube that pegged it perfectly. “One thing I love about this hobby is that even if you don’t like the car you can still appreciate the skill that goes into making it,” said YouTube user “thephranc.” This user’s implication that they don’t like the car gets over shadowed by the fact that this car is simply amazing and they can’t ignore it.
Built by Big Oak Garage of Hokes Bluff, Alabama they set this incredible car up for a gentleman named Terry Hensley. Hensley is the 3rd owner of this car and gave it a fresh new look. Sprayed in factory Ford color Toreador Red, this hot rod is certainly not lacking in curb appeal. Looking at this car from 5-feet or more, you would lay your money down on the assumption that the wood is legitimate. Up closer, you’re able to see that a master was at work. Big Oak Garage works closely with a mobile air brusher that came in to their shop and meticulously drew every line. Every hint of color was sprayed so that it would fool the majority.
Laid out on custom suspension, front and rear on 18-inch and 20-inch wheels, this car is set up with a stylish, but still, drivable stance. Wilwood brakes handle stopping and an LS1 provides the go-juice. Custom built inner fender wells and firewall add to the subtle hints of customization, but overall the body stays unchanged. Changes here and there have brought this car up to award worthiness. Just recently it brought in its first award at its first event, the Goodguys All American Nationals in Indianapolis.
