Auction Watch – GMC Food Service Truck At Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas

Whether you like auctions or not, they’re a good finger-on-the-pulse barometer of what hot rods and kustoms are currently selling for.  Each week, our “Auction Watch” column here at Rod Authority brings you some of the coolest cars offered around the country from some of the biggest and most recognized auction houses.

With no further ado, if you love panel vans and street food, have we got a doozy for you here.

This week, we bring you a 1979 GMC Custom Food Truck that would be a killer vehicle (see what we did there,) to start or augment a food service business, and scratch your hot rod affliction to boot.  Or, take it to block parties or the beach as your own private snack-mobile.

Gaze at this very cool build that crossed the block at Barrett-Jackson last month and brought $36,300.00.  Old step vans are all the rage, and this one surprised us that it was a 1979 model.  Aside from current or aspiring food truck vendors, the market is very small for this rig yet it brought relatively big money.

Barrett-Jackson Lot #409 – Custom vintage food truck powered by a rebuilt 292ci straight-6 engine backed by a three-speed manual transmission. The truck is fully equipped with commercial restaurant equipment operated by both propane and electric generator.

It features a 6’ exhaust range hood with a commercial exhaust fan (the fan is not installed on the truck for transport clearance) and is fully equipped with safety features, including suppression system, automatic shut-off valve, manual valve, window safety switch and pressure sensor switch.

The electric house is built with a soundproof material and comes with a 3,500-watt silent generator and equipment with a 4,000-watt inverter, so that a total of 7,500 watts and can be plugged into an external 120/220V electric outlet.

The three-compartment sink comes with two freshwater tanks located under the serving table and are easy to reach for refills. It has hot and cold water and a hand wash sink as well. The rear door is designed to fold down on a stand and can be used as a table.

The truck has been finished inside and out with House of Kolor custom orange paint and is equipped with whitewall tires, PA system, LED lights, stereo system and rebuilt brakes, suspension, bumpers, front grille, dash, seats, floor, steering wheel and chrome handles. Additional equipment includes: a double fryer, flat griddle, and a charbroiler grill.”

The former “Little Chief’s” food truck specialized in “Fine Street Food, ” but most likely had enough of the business.  Hopefully the signage and social media stickers are vinyl and easily removed, otherwise a fairly expensive revamp is in order to tailor this food truck to a new identity.

Either way, at $36K large, someone left Las Vegas with a cool–albeit expensive–food truck. Be sure and check back with Rod Authority for new auctions finds each week.
