Women in the automotive industry are much more than just stereotypical models; they’re gearheads, professionals, innovators, and downright geniuses when it comes to creating, building, and piloting some of the most amazing vehicles the car scene has seen. This weekend, a handful of industry women are proving that once again as they take on the challenge of building a Factory Five Mark IV 427 replica on PowerNation’s Detroit Muscle. Check out the PowerNation promo video above!
This weekend on Detroit Muscle, our recent leading lady Jo Coddington joins four other women, including SCCA and NASA racing champion Karen Salvaggio, Director of Advertising at Summit Racing Nan Gelhard, former Overhaulin’ crew member CherieLynn Westrich, and Factory Five mechanic Courtnie Provencher, to build a 427 Cobra replica using Factory Five Racing’s Mark IV chassis. Even more exciting than this being an all-women build is the fact that the whole build process will be showcased in just one episode. That’s just five days in real time!
The 427 replica is said to be powered by a Ford Racing 535hp 351W small block based 427 stroker. The car also features a TKO 5-speed transmission, solid rear axle with 8.8-inch rearend and 3.31 gears, a Factory Five three-link suspension system, and Koni 3012 double-adjustable coilover shocks. Stopping power for the Roadster comes from 13-inch Wilwood cross-drilled and slotted rotors with four pot calipers up front, and 11.65-inch discs in the rear with two-piston calipers. Street-sticking power is left up to Toyo R888 racing rubber wrapped around custom wheels built by Christopher Coddington of Hot Rods by Boyd.
Giving the car a bit of extra flair is a Sherwin Williams Planet Color Midnight Black paint scheme with vintage stripes in an off-white color. Interior features include black upholstery, a classically clean dash and a traditional over-sized steering wheel.
Shown off at the 2014 Factory Five Huntington Beach Cruise-In the last weekend of April, this amazing car will also be shown off at the 2014 Hot Rod Power Tour and the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
Eventually, the car will be auctioned off to benefit a women’s charity yet to be announced.
Be sure to tune in to PowerNation this weekend as the whole build process of this amazing 427 replica is showcased. Your first chance to catch the special Detroit Muscle episode is Saturday, May 17th at 8:30 a.m. ET on the CBS Sports Network.
