Joel Magee, America’s “Toy Scout,” has discovered one of the ultimate finds in toy collecting history.

A Hot Wheels Camaro, produced in 1967 and subsequently determined to be the first Hong Kong enamel white example ever found, was recently procured by Magee. It now stands as one of the most valuable toys in history.

The white prototype Camaro is one of three of the rarest and most desirable Redline Hot Wheels collectible cars in the world. Found in a collection of other Hot Wheels cars, Magee was allowed to examine the set, and after consultation with a Hot Wheels expert, determined that the white Camaro was, in fact, the rarest of unicorns.

The Enamel White Prototype Custom Camaro Hot Wheels car was one of the original sixteen models produced in 1967 by the Mattel toy corporation. The fact that the car is painted in enamel white establishes it as the prototype, as designers would paint the first of a new model of toy cars in that shade of enamel to check for imperfections.

Only a small handful were known to be mistakenly packaged and released to retailers over the years. Usually the prototype would be repainted in a production shade after inspection. This car is extremely rare to find at all, and its good condition makes it truly one of a kind.

The prototype Camaro is considered the third rarest Hot Wheels car and the only one known to exist. The “Beach Bomb” and the Olds 442 are the only other Hot Wheels cars on the level of the White Enamel Hong Kong Camaro in terms of rarity.

“I’ve collected toys forever and this Hot Wheels Camaro is the Holy Grail of collectibles,” Magee is quoted as saying. “I am beyond excited to have found it to add to my vast collection. This car is so extremely rare that there is only one known example which is this one.  Imagine something that originally sold for 59 cents now being worth upwards of $100,000! Wow!”

The rare Hot Wheels prototype will be added to Magee’s collection of toys that will tour with him throughout the country at upcoming fairs, media appearances, and appraisal events.
