Fatman Fabrication’s New Tri-Five Chassis For Better Handing

The days of static car shows are dwindling. Enthusiasts want to enjoy their hot rods. Often times, that requires some suspension mods that will improve handling and performance. The folks At Fatman Fabrication have been helping enthusiasts achieve their dreams for many years, and have just announced two new chassis for the Tri-Five Chevy.

First, we have front frame stubs. Many steering, braking, and suspension upgrades are available for the Tri-Five cars and are often satisfactory. While complete new frames are available, that upgrade might involve more expense than necessary since the original rear suspension is easily upgraded. However, when the project demands the very best in handling, clearance, and appearance, a complete, new front suspension may be in order.

If you are looking for just a front end upgrade for your Tri-Five, the stub kit is for you.

Fatman’s approach is to retain the rear section of the original frame, but replace the front end with a unit offering more ground and tire-to-fender clearance. Enhanced geometry goes hand-in-hand with fabbed frame rails and TIG-welded tubular-steel control arms. You can figure on a 2- to 4-inch drop depending on the choice of stock or dropped spindles. The actual suspension can be your choice of conventional coil springs, premium Ridetech coilovers, Airride, or Shockwaves. New engine mounts must be fitted, with LS, small or big block Chevy engines fitting well. The front-mounted rack-and-pinion solves the old problem of header-to-steering box interference. Most of the welding to attach the frame is done underneath the fenders, and we’re told the installation is simple enough that many are done without removing the engine.

The full chassis is a hot rodder’s dream.

But, if you’re looking for the ultimate in chassis design, Fatman’s full chassis is precision welded using 3- x 4- x .188-inch main rails, with a fully closed X-member design made with 2 x 4 x .188-inch tubing. The standard suspension includes nickel-plated tubular control arms, premium Ridetech coilovers, power rack-and-pinion, new spindles, sway bar, and 11-inch brakes. The new 9-inch rear comes complete with disc brakes, axles, new bearings and seals, and is all mounted via a Pro-link four-bar, Ridetech coilovers, and a rear sway bar.

Complete body mount provisions, mounts for Chevy LSX, big or small blocks, and a removable transmission mount make installations simple, with plenty of space for big tube headers. Options such as Shockwaves and Wilwood aluminum brakes abound to have this surprisingly affordable chassis built to suit your dreams!

Now’s the time to get your hot rod on the road and hitting the twisties, and Fatman Fabrication can help you do just that — with style.
