Everybody knows Rad Rides by Troy. The shop, led by owner and namesake Troy Trepanier, has made a name for itself by building some of the coolest kustoms cars on the planet. We always keep an eye on the auction houses to keep our finger on the pulse of the collector car market so when we saw this Rad Rides build pop up for sale, we were intrigued. We also love the skinny on prices the collector market will accommodate and what it costs to own a big-name build.

For you Tri-Shield fans, this radical build brings together three very disparate flavors, cognac, milk chocolate and sauerkraut. Yes, this 1954 Buick Special has the guts of an Autobahn cruiser tucked neatly under it’s pastel, porthole fenders. It took many hours and hundred of thousands of dollars to pull this build off and it is now offered at Barrett-Jackson Northeast 2019-with no reserve-June 26th-29th in Uncasville, Connecticut.

According to seller, “This one-of-a-kind 1954 Buick Special custom coupe known as “G54” is a true masterpiece.  The story behind the build is simple, adding German engineering to an American icon. This was a no-expense-spared build with mega-hours and bucks invested.

“Tons of time was spent on design and fabrication work. The Mercedes-Benz donor parts were from a G55 model, so it only made sense to nickname this car “G54.” The exterior design was simple, keeping the classic lines of the Buick. Great attention to detail was spent on the body fitment and lines. The car was painted a two-tone combination of Cognac and Chocolate Milk, which dresses this car beautifully. The paint job is truly stunning.

“It’s equipped with modern headlights and 1962 Chevy taillights with custom-machined bezels. The rear bumper was custom-made, tucked in with some trim pieces welded together for a smooth appearance. Everything but the front grille and side window trim was nickel-plated. It sits on one-off Billet Specialties wheels that are 18×8” on the front and 20×10” on the rear. The wheels were finished to match the car, including Buick and AMG logos.”

The interior matches the exterior color combo and features Mercedes switchgear and accessories. Mercedes owners will recognize many bits here with most everything covered in buttery smooth leather. The interior features include an Ididit tilt steering column, Juliano’s steering wheel, billet door handles, billet vent cranks, Vintage Air and custom-made 3-point seatbelts. The trunk compartment is upholstered to match the cabin as well.

The Art Morrison chassis is home to a Mercedes-Benz AMG 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine with an estimated 530hp running through a five-speed Merc automatic transmission. The engine is equipped with an Eaton supercharger, Big Stuff 3 fuel injection and MSD ignition.

The old Buick is sprung with a C6 Corvette front suspension and a 4-link rear suspension with upgraded sway bars and RideTech shocks at all four corners. The braking system combines a Mercedes-Benz power booster and master cylinder, with a four-wheel, 14-inch Baer brakes with 6-piston calipers.
