It’s sometimes hard to believe that some shows can be around as long as they have, but the 67th Annual Sacramento Autorama has come and gone. Held at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento, it’s listed as the longest-running indoor car show, and this past show held on February 17-19 was another great show.
Despite the uncooperative weather during the entire three-day weekend, we were fortunate to be able to see some great cars and meet some awesome people. On Saturday, we found a few cars outside while the weather pretended to cooperate, and for most of the day it stayed rather dry. But inside the several buildings were the real treats, and it proved to be a glorious weekend filled with eye candy and ideas for our own project cars.
While there were lots specialty builds that were over the top, we also found a lot of vehicles that showcased the owners personal attention to details and tastes. There were lowriders there, and maybe that’s not your thing, but you can’t deny the meticulous detail and customization on some of these classics. It was no surprise that the very first car we saw when we arrived, a 1962 Chevrolet Impala (above) owned by Eric Wisterman, won the award for Best Rod, as well as the Manuel Arteche Memorial Award.
One of the hardest things we have to do at shows like this is to pick our favorites, and we have to limit the number to something rational. To say that we are limiting our Top Picks to just three cars is a little absurd, because there were literally dozens that made us come back for more.
So we figured that we will show us the Top Three vehicles that we loved the most, two of which were in their own display area. We’ll also bring you individual car features on those three, because each of them was enough to warrant such a decision.
But Wait, There’s More…
Like we said, we can’t just tell you about only three cars that were special to us, because there were so many more. We’re going to capitalize on our show experience for you and bring you another article with more picks that we felt deserved some special attention. And on top of that, we went outside on Saturday and found a couple of cars that we felt would be nice additions to our Street Feature series.
Then we picked a couple from inside the show and we’ll be adding those as well. So keep our Street Feature series saved as a favorite, as we’re always adding new vehicles from readers, fans, and car shows around the country. Many of these are just regular drivers that people have spent a lot of their own time building; never a disappointment in this series – and you can submit your own ride to us as well.
We gave you a little taste of some of our favorites from the 67th Sacramento Autorama, so keep checking back as we bring these to you over the course of the next couple of weeks. We’ll publish our Hot Rods and Street Rod gallery tomorrow, and in the meantime, enjoy the huge gallery of some of the coolest musclecars and hot rods from the 1950s through the 1970s below.
