SEMA 2015: Ron Francis Wiring Tames Ford’s Coyote

Wiring just about anything in your car — be it a radio, an ignition system, or an entire engine, cannot only seem like a stressful endeavor, but for some, it can be downright impossible. The folks at Ron Francis Wiring have been eliminating the fear of wiring for 40 years, and at the 2015 SEMA Show, they introduced a couple of components that will really make the task seem almost too easy.

IMG_9734The first item we saw at their display was a wire harness designed to install the 2011 and newer Coyote 5.0-liter engine with either an automatic or manual transmission into virtually anything. This harness comes with a fuse panel, and everything needed to connect all the factory sensors on the engine, the connections for the fuel injectors, and the ECM. One thing we do need to mention, is that the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS), is defeated by an ECM reprogramming that is sold separately. According to Kyle Bowers, “This system also comes with tech support; we can reprogram the computer to remove the anti-theft and emissions programming, and also recalibrate the controller for tire size and rearend gear changes.” Kyle added that while they can make those minor changes, Ron Francis Wiring does not do any computer tuning.

Next on our “What is that” list is the Black Box. Don’t worry, this box is not some government regulatory invasion to your car. This particular Black Box is a fully programmable, state-of-the-art electrical relay system that allows complete control of up to 10 individual relayed circuits. With this box, wiring controls for circuits like those running power windows, door locks, electric fuel and water pumps, and cooling fans is a lot safer than not using relays. The Black Box also contains a Bluetooth module that will make operation of the connected controls possible via remote control, which will be available Spring/Summer of 2016. It will work with both iPhone and Android applications.
