A new year means new efforts by the Specialty Equipment Market Association to stay on top of and encourage fair legislation when it comes to the automotive hobby. While SEMA and the SEMA Action Network (SAN) have plenty of efforts ahead of them for 2013, the year has started off slow for the Hot Rod scene. So instead of rehashing the information on the Legacy License Plate Program found in this month’s Law & Order update that we brought you recently, we decided to look at other resources that SAN has made available to hot rod and custom car enthusiasts. What we found was nothing short of exciting.

By logging onto the SEMA Action Network website, you’ll find countless resources for all kinds of automotive enthusiasts. Of course, we’re die-hard hot rod and custom fans here at Rod Authority, so we were instantly drawn to the number of assets made specifically for fellow rodders.

Among them, we found a map detailing all the legislation that has been enacted across the United States that have created special titling and registration classifications for street rods, custom vehicles and kit cars.

As we discussed in our coverage of SEMA’s Tag and Title Toolbox back in August, titling and registering your hot rod, custom vehicle or kit car can be tricky and rather frustrating. But thanks to SAN, owners of these vehicles have access to all the resources they need to get their prized vehicles on the road. With that access comes the Street Rod/ Custom Vehicle Legislation Roundup– a helpful resource for those enthusiasts looking to see what states have special legislation in place regulating titling and registration of hobby vehicles.

As you can see from the map above, this resource provides a very helpful pictorial representation of states with special hot rod/custom vehicle titling and registration legislation, as well as when this legislation went into effect. On the SAN website, you can also download copies of these legislative bills so that you can see exactly what each states’ legislation entails when it comes to your vehicle. Information on the website also explains the definition of a street rod by SEMA standards and what this definition means as far as how your vehicle is intended to be used, registered, licensed, titled, displayed or otherwise enjoyed within the hobby.
