Throwback Thursday: How To Measure Housings And Axles for Proper Fit

Welcome to another Thursday. Ready or not, the end of the week is about to run us over? That’s right, another Friday is about to land on our garage door. Now that another Thursday is making its presence known, that means it’s time for another Throwback Thursday.

This week, we are taking a short trip back to September 2015, to check out, Video: How To Measure Housings And Axles for Proper Fit. Our classic cars have seen many modifications through the years and many times, those modifications require some serious thought and planning before tackling the upgrade. Take for instance swapping a rearend.

To measure the axle, there are a few dimensions necessary. Don’t assume that the right and left axles are the same length.

If you are planning a rearend upgrade, it’s a good idea to get some help to know exactly what you need before order something you don’t. That’s exactly why Moser Engineering helped us put together the original article, to help you guys. The company has done it thousands of times before, and they’re available to help you with the process. The forms you can find on the website for measuring a custom housing can be downloaded, and the instructions help you take all of the necessary measurements step-by-step. If you get stuck, or if something is unclear, the tech support staff at Moser is just a phone call away.

Measuring the hub and flange diameter is just as important to make sure they’ll fit inside a brake rotor or drum. After the measuring is done, Moser can get to work building your new axles.

In the original article, we explain why it might not be a good idea to assume what’s already under your car, as the rearend could have been swapped years ago, and if that’s the case and someone ordered wheels to fit that rearend, they might not fit a new one if you order incorrectly.

The article actually gets into the nitty-gritty of the install, and suffice to say, there is a lot more in-depth insight and an install highlighted in this informative article. That definitely makes it worthy of a second look. For that reason, I selected Video: How To Measure Housings And Axles for Proper Fit as this week’s Throwback Thursday showcase article.
