The all new Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission, which is based on its race-proven T-56 gearbox, delivers the power to the wheels of the exciting new 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28. Coupled to a 5.1:1-ratio short-throw shifter, ensuring fast throws, a driver can quickly take advantage of the 500 hp created by the Z/28’s LS7 V-8. The unique close-ratio gearing of the Tremec TR-6060 makes it an ideal match for the LS7’s performance characteristics.
Tremec worked hard to make the new transmission stand up to the demands of the power coming from the LS7. Featuring a three-piece aluminum case with an end-load design, the Tremec TR-6060 offers an integrated clutch housing for improved case strength, two-piece gears with laser welded clutch teeth that provide more positive gear engagement and help to eliminate jump-outs, and an improved synchronizer system for better shift feel and performance.
Narrower synchronizer hubs in the TR-6060 help to reduce fore and aft shift travel and at the same time allow for greater face width on all gears. The new double and triple cone synchronizers also have larger diameters to provide greater contact area, and a sintered bronze material is being used for the synchronizers as opposed to carbon particle paper.
