When was the last time a Buick was alluring? If you answered along the lines of “it’s been awhile,” you’re not alone but that doesn’t mean they didn’t have their glory days. And to remind you of what those were like, we’ve found a vintage Buick commercial you should see. Flirty, fun and a little fancy, this commercial might just have you falling in love with the classic Buick again.
Introduced in 1962 as a 1963 model, the Buick Riviera was all about exclusivity, class and character. Not much changed for the 1964 model year. The family car was offered with few options, but that didn’t deduct from its prestigious appeal. And a base 401cui engine matched to a Super Turbine 400 transmission certainly didn’t hurt sales when it came to the performance side of things.
So how do you market a car like that? Well, with a scenario depicting every essence of the vehicle its intending to sell, of course. And that’s what Buick did, combining the fun, lighthearted nature of a child-like boy chases girl story line with the sleek looks and road performance of the Rivera. (Never mind the comment about women not understanding the car; they just weren’t about to let their man in on their little secret. Boy how times have changed).
Buick may not be the first brand to mind when you think young, innocent fun, but you’d never sense that looking at this vintage commercial. What kinds of cars do you think have this type of appeal now?
