Video: Goodguys’ 1969 Camaro “Project G/RS” Unveil Set For SEMA Show

dsc_0014With SEMA closing in fast we’re excited to announce that our buddies over at Goodguys are gearing up for the debut of the newest addition to their personal stable of classics – their 1969 Camaro dubbed “Project G/RS.”

dsc_0002We are as eager to check out the vehicle in less than two weeks as Goodguys is to unveil it, here’s what they had to say, “After 17 months, many 17 hour days and some serious painstaking attention to detail, the long awaited debut of the Goodguys “Project G/RS” ’69 Camaro is here. The car will be unveiled by builder Bret Voelkel and his RideTech team Tuesday morning, November 5th at the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association booth (#22375) at the SEMA Show.”

Rod Authority couldn’t be happier for the folks at Goodguys and if you watched the promo video above we’re sure you got amped up as much as we did. Now, If only we could convince them to do a couple of those burnouts in the convention center our adrenaline fixation might just by satiated! Read on for a breakdown on the build and to learn a little more about “Project G/RS.”dsc_0178

The folks at RideTech have had a long standing relationship with Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, more than 15 years to be exact. In 2008 they built the ’70 Chevelle Goodguys giveaway car and again in 2010 they put their skills to work on the ’70 Nova giveaway car. This time around Goodguys requested a build that would be all their own. You might vaguely recognize the Camaro because it has become an official icon within the Goodguys logo as of late.

Project G/RS Outfitted For Pro-Touring Performance

“The Goodguys ‘Project G/RS’ Camaro will be used to further promote the Goodguys brand throughout the country on the open road as well as on the Goodguys AutoCross course and other driving events.” Goodguys plans on driving “Project G/RS” out to its remaining 2013 events and have it make appearances to as many of its national events from there on out. Naturally, a car with a trip load such as that needs to be built and kitted out to withstand the wear and tear of the unforgiving road.dsc_0018

Here is a breakdown of some of the performance upgrades that were made on the Camaro:

  • Supercharged LSA Engine – GM Performance Products
  • Tremec T56 Magnum 6-Speed
  • Moser Rearend
  • Baer Brakes
  • RideTech Coilover Suspension & TigerCage
  • Flowmaster Exhaust
  • Forgeline Wheels
  • Vintage Air A/C
  • Kicker Stereo
  • Marquez Interior & Billet Components
  • Interior By Hudson Rod & Custom
  • Dakota Digital VX Series Gauge Pod
  • PPG Paint
  • Flush Windshield/Backglass By Classic Auto Innovations
  • American Auto Wiring
  • Fuel Tank By Rick’s Stainless Tanks

dsc_0025Gary Meadors, founder of Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, included his ’32 Ford Sedan into the company logo. It is iconic to many hot rod enthusiasts. His son Marc Meadors, the company’s present-day president wanted to continue that legacy and expand on that tradition by building this Camaro that has become a part of the Goodguys brand and family. He says, “My dad’s ’32 Ford Sedan is known throughout the world…Gary’s ’32 will be forever tied to Goodguys and all we do. We wanted to add to that legacy by building a muscle car and adding it to the Goodguys logo and company theme – something that represents the current landscape of hot rodding. Much like my father’s hot rod, this Goodguy-Yellow Camaro will be driven hard and shared with car guys and gals nationwide.”

Stories like this just put a smile on our face. Hats off to the folks at RideTech for one mean build and Goodguys for honoring tradition, taking something sentimental and having expectations to push it to its limits on the road.dsc_0006
