As adults, when we see some hooligan squealing his tires on a public road, we often comment about what a show-off he is. Or, in a moment of parental wisdom and duty, we shake our heads and tell the kids that it’s dangerous and they should never do something like that. On the inside, however, we’re secretly loving every minute of it – as long as it’s a decent burnout.
The one-tire fryers and cheap-tire squeals never appealed to us because they just didn’t hit the mark, but a nice set of freshly laid patches that cover the next few car lengths is just what the doctor ordered! We are more of a “do as I say, not as I do” variety when it comes to muscle car burnouts, we love the sound of a healthy engine, the smell of burning rubber and the smoke that fills our vision. But the kids shouldn’t try this at home, because we’re adults fer cryin’ out loud.
When we came across this video, nearly five minutes of burnouts capturing thirty classic and muscle cars laying patches (or in some cases just squealing tires) we wanted to share it. It has that sort of “name the car” essence – much like the scene in the movie Gone in Sixty Seconds where Memphis and Otto play back a tape of famous engines and try to guess which one it is. Can you recognize all the cars?
We all love the classics and the muscle cars, and seeing some of these cars remind us about being a teenager, back when we used to do burnouts just to show off and have a little fun raising hell. The only thing we have left to say about this is: kids, don’t do this; and which one is your favorite?
