Nostalgia drag races bring out an interesting mix of vintage rides, classics, and even a few muscle cars. Few things are as entertaining for those with the attention span of a gnat, as drag racing. It is short, loud, and to the point. When classic cars and hot rods are added into the mix the fun factor is increased exponentially.
A group of nostalgia drag racing fans gathered at the Ballarat Airport for day of racing, tire, smoke, and classic cars. However, this is not some random airstrip in the United States, this event takes place in Australia. Watching drag racing from another part of the world shows the universal love for classic cars. With little fanfare, the video jumps right into the action with a pair what appear to be 1930’s coupes.
As the video progresses viewers are treated to match up featuring coupes, gassers, and hot rods. Eventually, pair of classic Chevrolets line up for an 1/8 mile speed contest; this pairing is reminiscent of Two Lane Blacktop thanks to grey car in the far lane. The drivers line up their cars and once they launch, the red tri-five gasser walks away from the grey car.
Each pairing makes the viewer feel as though they travelled back in time to hey days of hot rodding. From gassers to roadsters, the Ballarat nostalgia drag racers were fun for attendees as well as the drivers behind the race cars. Like many drag strips in the United States, the Ballarat track or airstrip is no longer viable option for racers, but thanks to videos like this one the fun will live on.
