We all love burnouts – what gearhead doesn’t? And who doesn’t enjoy a good car show? Take those two elements, put them together in the gearhead-overrun state of Michigan, and what do you have? The recipe for instant burnouts.
But there’s something about this video you might not notice initially – the guy driving the Gangster is none other than Rick Dyer. Yes, that Rick Dyer of C.A.R.S. Inc. and 1990’s Pro Street fame. It seems that Rick’s still got a shop somewhere in Michigan where he builds a car or two every so often – we wonder if this is one of them. The Gangster sports a small-block Ford engine huffing some nitrous, but we couldn’t find much more information than that on the car.
Just seeing Rick Dyer toss down another monster smoky burnout – hands free – was enough for us. Oh, to reminisce about days gone by – the early 90’s were the heyday of Pro Street, and we miss it. People like Dyer, Bruce Kimmen, Monty Berney, Ken Anderson, Pat Musi, and the lovely Annette Summers – they are the folks responsible for today’s wave of “street-legal” drag racing; pioneers that should never be forgotten.
Unfortunately all of those memories exist on VHS and nobody’s converted them for YouTube, at least not that we were able to find. We found an old Hot Rod Magazine/NMCA Memphis videos, but who owns a VHS player anymore to watch the tape – if it’s still even viewable? Maybe it’s time to hit Wallyworld for a cheap VCR and a set of cables to hook it up to our flatscreen.
Oh, and through the rest of the video, there are Michiganders doing burnouts, like the cool ’67 Dart GT seen up above. Or attempting to, in some cases. Slicks and a parking lot don’t really mix with no waterbox.
