One of the most respected event organizers in the classic car industry will be in attendance, The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. They’ve got something special lined up for this year’s event – The Goodguys 2013 Gold Award exclusive to builds present at the 2013 SEMA Auto Show.
These exclusive trophies will be awarded to just five automobiles which is sure to kick off the award with an air of grandeur in future years.
Marc Meadors, the president of the Goodguys association had this to say about the award’s description, “The new awards are the first of their kind for Goodguys at SEMA. The SEMA show has long been an industry showplace for freshly built hot rods, customs, and musclecars as well as late-models to make their debut. We wanted to do something exclusive and special at the SEMA show in recognition of today’s top builders. SEMA has become one of the top car shows in the world and it only makes sense for Goodguys to honor what we feel are the top five cars on display.”
Rod Authority will of course be in attendance at this year’s SEMA for full coverage of the latest updates and new products in our industry. Though it is a busy week full of product reviews, features, and spotlights we are truly excited to see who will be the Goodguys five picks for their exclusive Gold Award.
There are very loose requirements for being a contender for the award which makes this one even more of a nail-biter. All cars on display at SEMA which have a Goodguys decal adorning their windshield will be eligible for the award! Cars throughout the entire convention will be scouted – indoor display, outdoor display, as well as all featured exhibit vehicles regardless of year, make, or model will be fair game. The one requirement – The Goodguys decal on your windshield. We told you, its open game for this one folks.
For those of you wondering, “What is this trophy going to look like?” the award will be a special billet anodized Gold bar inlaid into what looks like a granite textured bed.
All five recipients will receive this “gold” bar and an invitation to the Goodguys 16th Southwest Nationals on November 15 through the 17th at Westworld in Scottsdale, Arizona. There will be a special lot at the event reserved for Gold winners to park and display their cars. Furthermore, the five winners will be photographed for inclusion in the Goodguys Goodtimes Gazette.
The winners will be announced at the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association booth at SEMA which will be located in Hot Rod Alley (booth #22375) on Wednesday, November 6th at 2:00 p.m. The folks at Goodguys encourage all exhibitors, fans, GG members, and enthusiasts to attend the winner’s announcement ceremony.
There’s a lot to look forward to at this year’s SEMA convention and seeing who the Goodguys committee feels is worthy of a Gold Award is definitely one of them!
Goodguys had this to say for anyone out there with a desire to compete, “If you’re debuting or showing a car at SEMA this year and do not currently have a Goodguys decal on your car, you can stop by the Goodguys booth for a complimentary one. See you at SEMA!”
